Inspiration for the week.........

Slam dancing and grooving...........

Had a busy week, therefore the lack of posts.....sorry. We were actually dancing our glutes off!! Let us tell you, dancing is a great cardio workout and burns A LOT of calories! We went to two completely different types of concerts this week.

The first concert was a lifetime dream of Mcdeez. NOFX!! A punk band that has been playing as long as Mcdeez has been alive. Lets just say, there's a lot of moving going on in a mosh pit. And you have no choice but to join, if you want to watch the band from the front row.........which we did :) The end result was feeling like you got spit out of a sweaty drying machine.

The second concert was a friend of ours who plays in a local band called The Good Hurt. This was a  much more low key type of a show and much easier to dance to.........which we did, again :) This time we watched the whole show from the front row without getting kicked or losing a shoe, which we forgot to mention about the NOFX show. Here is some proof

All in all it was an exciting week. We promise not to go this long without posting again. We're still finalizing our Superbowl party menu, and based on the number of comments from the previous post, its just going to be the two of us. So make sure to comment! Thanks for following.

P.s. The video on top is our buddies The Good Hurt, enjoy!!

Are you ready for some football........

In the spirit of football Sunday, we decided to host a Superbowl gathering. This will not be a typical Superbowl party, it will be a "somewhat" health themed party (but nobody knows this yet, so lets keep it a secret). Here's what we are thinking:

  • BYOM (Bring your own meat), we'll provide the grill.
  • Nachos with lean ground turkey, low sodium black beans, low fat cheddar, guacamole, and a dollop of Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream).
  • Cut up veggies with a light spinach artichoke dip (nobody will be able to tell the difference).
  • Whole grain crackers with low sodium salami and cheese.
  • Grilled chicken skewers with veggies
  • Homemade trail mix
  • Pretzel thins with homemade chipotle hummus
  • Baked spicy chicken wings
  • Sweet potato fries
  • Fudgy chocolate brownie
  • Almond butter chocolate chip cookies
So from this list we would like some feedback. What sounds best to you? Or, do you have any ideas you would add to the list. If you want an invite you better comment ;) Lastly, who is your pick to take the Lombardi trophy this year?

Snowed in.....

Snowed in yesterday and iced in today!  Lots of people are out of power, but we are lucky to have power here.... and heat!!  Woo Hoo!

Unlike McDeez, my gym as at my work, and unfortunately there is no power there.  Aggghh!  Time to get creative.  I'll be honest, I am not a huge fan of the cold, so running outside in the snow is out of the question.  I guess I'll walk over the the grocery store for some cardio, bundled up and looking like a giant marshmallow in my puffy white jacket.

Here is my plan for a full body workout after my "cardio" session that does not require a gym:

Warm up with some jumping jacks for about 2 minutes, then perform each exercise for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times.
  • Pushups
  • Tricep Dips (I used the edge of a chair)
  • Deadlifts with medicine ball (a gallon of milk, or anything else you can find around the house can be a substitute for weight)
  • Squats
  • Lunge and twist
  • Calf Raises
  • Supermans
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Crunches
  • Plank
It's supposed to warm up tomorrow, so hopefully I can get back to the gym.  Stay warm out there everyone!

Workout shoes...........

We all know workout shoes are important. You want comfort, and at the same time you want to look good. I recently just bought a pair of the Nike Lunarlon's. So far I love them. I have yet to run in them so I'll have to get back to you on how they handle the test. As for just walking around, or weight training in the gym they are excellent, no complaints! They're not so bad on the eyes either ;)

A little funny to start the weekend........

Friday night dinner.........

Using what we had at home, we made dinner on the fly with little planning. The results were delicious; stuffed chicken breast with pesto and feta. On the side were roasted rosemary red potatoes, and blasted broccoli (in other words roasted with red pepper flakes and garlic).

Roasted Red Potatoes:

- 4 red medium potatoes cut into cubes
- 1/2 small onion chopped
- 3 small cloves of garlic chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- salt and pepper to taste
- red paper flakes (amount depending on how spicy you prefer)

Set oven to 350 for 25 min. Then finished off in a skillet on the stove top covered until tender.

Blasted Broccoli:

- 2 heads of broccoli
- 2 garlic cloves pressed
- salt and pepper to taste
- red pepper flakes
- tablespoon of olive oil

Bake at 450 for 15-20 min. or until slightly blackened

 Stuffed Chicken:

- 2 butterflied chicken breasts
- 1 tablespoon of pesto per chicken breast
- 1 tablespoon of fat free feta per chicken breast
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon of marinara sauce per chicken breast drizzled over top before baking
- 2 artichoke hearts per breast chopped and stuffed inside

Bake at 350 for 30 min covered in foil. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-25 min until done

Inspirational quote........

Thursday night reward...........

So this past week we've been really good at making food at home. But tonight, we decided to reward ourselves with a trip to our new favorite sushi joint (usually a healthy dinner option fyi). Conveniently located within walking distance, which was a good way to burn some pre-dinner calories :) We ordered three rolls and some edamame, all were delicious. But be warned, we decided to order some celebratory sake. Choices were bottled or bamboo. We choose bamboo thinking it was for one person, so we got two. Little did we know, the bamboo was plenty for two people, whoops! Needless to say I'm typing this slightly inebriated. Which leads me to the topic.......cheat days! We try to limit them to once a week (sometimes more), but they are necessary to maintain sanity. Even to the most loyal gym rats the routine can be rather tolling after some time. What are some ways you "cheat", or what do you consider a "cheat day"?

Just another day.........

Today was a typical day, really needed some motivation in the gym but wasn't sure where to find it..........until, I popped in the head phones and the first song I heard was Slipknot. I know I know, kinda scary and violent. But I'm telling ya, there's something about listening to another person scream out everything your muscles are feeling! That led me to wonder, what do you listen to that really gets you amped up for that long run, or that weight session you're about to rep out in the gym?
